Welcome to your future

A look forward

Now that Mr. Obama has been elected as our new President, and has started his transition to the inarugration, I wonder?

Has he been briefed on the secret stuff he did not know about prior to his election?
Does he really realize that he has a tiger by the tail and won’t be able to let go?
Is he really going forward with the “damn the torpedo full speed ahead“ course he has set?
Is he magically going to create new jobs and wipe out unemployment?
Will he order new printing presses for the government printing office?
When the Obama “machine” take over, are they really going to hit the road “running” and how far will they go?
Did the Congress and Senate just use our new leader to get into office for another 40 years?
Will they “go for” everything he has proposed so far or will they do everything to hinder him and do things their way?
If he pulls the Troops out, creates a CIVILIAN security force, “RAP” with Iran, Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea. Will our second amendment be next. Then only the Bad guys will have guns.
Wake up Steeple, We are still in control, But for how long?

Down and Out, Doom and Gloom, We are all gona die!

A few questions have come into my head lately and I really don't worry about doom and gloom!

While reading one of my favorite Blogs, www.righttruth.typepad.com (Please Read it Next Crisis ... Food?) An article shocked me into reality! The article mentioned Garald Celente of Trends Research and Steve Shenik of efoods direct. Spouting Revolution, Famine, Riots, and massive poverty and Soup lines in the next 4 years and 3d world country status also by 2012. Got my blood boiling. I sent an Email to Right truth and expressed my displeasure, read it here
Debbie

I am not one to cast doubts on such learned prognosticators as are featured in today's Blog. I have to take offense at both Gerald Celente and Steve Shenk. Both of them want all of us Sheeple to prepare for doomsday, Buy years supplies of food and prepare for the very worst possible life in the next four years.

These Two, and one of their talk show hosts Alex Jones, are out to enhance their bank accounts, by subscriptions to News Letters, buying Bulk Food and spouting doom and gloom on the radio to the Sheeple who are really expecting Gloom and Doom!

These are the same people that Stirred up the pot in 1999 with the Y2K "BS" lots of Americans listened and panicked the only ones that benefited were the pervayors of Doom and Gloom.

That Said, YES the next 4 years may be hard but we have not lasted over 200 years to give up and hide under a rock. Yep you darned tooten we should be prepared, But should we not always be prepared?

My Opinion at 74
WillieBill PS: I really love your Blog entries, This one just set me off! WB

I got a not back from her and she pointed out that she was trying to spark a thought in some people that they should BE PREPARED, not necessarily with shelters, food and all that good stuff but getting prepared and staying prepared by looking at the future needs and not using it all up today.

Wake up Sheeple, We may have a hard road to hoe for a while but we will make it!

If you are so inclined, use google, and look up Gerald Celente, Steve Shenk, efoods direct, and Alex Jones. I have heard some of their drivel and have come to the conclusion that there are now and maybe always been, three groups of people, Liberals, Conservatives and the really far out Tin Hat Conservatives. There are Tin Hats in all groups, but these are scary!

The "Post Turtle of today"

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year-old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, Obama is a “post turtle.” Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a “post turtle” was.

The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a “post turtle”.

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a dumb ass put him up there.”

This is an old story, but it fits very well.

The following is good reading and should be looked at carefully

Patriotism or Elitism?

By R.J. Godlewski© October 20, 2008, All Rights Reserved

I am an American and I am damn proud of that fact. As far as I am concerned, there is no greater nation on earth nor has there ever been. I am able to aspire to any career – even if I should change my field every few years – and can live in any state or city of my choosing and wherewithal. I can attend whichever church I find inspiring and associate with any friends that I find uplifting. Nobody demands of me and I demand nothing from anyone in turn. I offer what comes from my heart willingly and if, for whatever reason, I choose to remain introverted, pessimistic, and challenging, then I can do so for that is what freedom is all about. If others try to deny me of this life, then I can protect myself with my .45, even here in pathetically liberal Michigan.

Part of being American means that I accept a certain level of compassion, concern, and responsible foresight within my life. I understand the inherent value of innocent human life and use whatever talents God has given me to benefit the world. When I “spread my wealth”, it is because I have chosen to do so. That’s being American; charity is as much a creative enterprise as is oil painting or classical music. We take what we are, focus our thoughts to that which we would like to create, and devote our lives to whichever ‘Cause’ we would like our talents to address. America has succeeded largely because these traits are the norm and not the exception.

There are other people, however, who do not believe that compassion and charity are individual efforts. These people believe that it is the state that determines what we are to believe, what we are to address, and how much effort is required on our part. They wish to “distribute the wealth” through force and not through inspiration. They want us to associate with people we have not chosen, contribute to causes we do not support, and utilize talents we do not profess. Most of all, they wish to force these things upon us because, quite simply, they do not believe that we have the mental wherewithal to offer these services of our own accord. These people are not Americans, they are elitists of the same ilk as those who swarmed around the Nazi flag in Madison Square Gardens leading up to the Second World War or wrapped themselves within the Fifth Amendment during the 1950’s hunt for infiltrating communists.

They are not Americans because they do not respect the human lives that millions of their compatriots have fought and died for over the centuries. They are not Americans for they do not accept that charity begins at home and instead believe that charity is orchestrated best by the state. They are not Americans because they do not endorse the economic system that has withstood the ravages of time. They simply feel that their decades’ of existence trumps our nation’s centuries of experience.

These people are not Americans for they spend far too much time demanding attention for their little efforts. They use the media, entertainment, and political office to display their importance whereas millions of their fellow citizens accomplish far more and defer attention from it. It is easy to spot these elitists, for they are the ones that spout “I” more often than anyone else. They are the ones that say “I” know what’s best for you; “I” have far more rights than you do; “I” want what you have.

When they get bored with using “I” they use its sibling “My”. You’ve heard them. It’s “My” body so I can have an abortion. It’s “My” health so you have to pay for my insurance. It’s “My” choice to take drugs, to drink, and to act irresponsibly so you have to accept the consequences. Americans don’t act that way, but elitists do.

Americans, on the other hand, know that they are on loan from God, the master landlord of all. They know that being American is not restricted to a particular race, sex, creed, or religion. Being American requires, quite simply, the respect for all human life. The elitists, however, believe that they should have the last say in defining human life. They say that it does not exist if it hasn’t yet been born. They say that beyond a certain age, it is permissible to extinguish it. They say that we can literally grow human life merely for the benefit of others, choosing to extract parts and destroy the rest as suited to their needs.

Elitists claim moral superiority by making moral standards obsolete. They can, at the stroke of a pen, elevate the animal kingdom beyond the human and lay blame upon the human for the changes taking place within the geological world. Elitists claim superior knowledge for they can tell you what will happen with a great degree of certainty thousands of years into the future but dismiss the historical record of their forefathers. I am so glad that I am not an elitist.

I was born into this world for a mission that God had chosen me for and I do not take this mission lightly. The elitists would have you believe that I am somehow a “Right Winger” or a “fanatic.” They charge me with being a “conservative” as if conservatism were some foul disease unworthy of speech. They level charges of racism against me simply because I believe that Barack Obama is the worst possible candidate for president during this period of great challenges to our national security. I am simply an American and I will defend this great nation of ours with every asset and talent at my disposal. If I offend you, then take it up with God. Don’t harass the messenger.

I Don't Really Care

Letter from a housewife on the war on terror - MUST READ
This was written by a Canadian housewife in New Brunswick , to her local newspaper, but oh how it also applies to the U.S., U.K. and Australia. This is one ticked off lady.

Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we?
Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001 and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from the nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were claiming to be tortured by a justice system of the nation they come from and are fighting against in a brutal insurgency?

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief of which is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan.

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called 'insurgents' in Afghanistan come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blows themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the Canadian media stops pretending that their freedom of speech on stories is more important than the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting at home to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a CANADIAN soldier roughing up an Insurgent terrorist to obtain information, know this:

I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank:

I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and 'fed special' food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts:

I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn you guessed it.

I don't care!!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends Sooner or later, it'll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behaviour! If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete button.

Should you choose the latter, then please don't complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

'Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Soldiers don't have that problem.

'I have another quote that I would like to add, AND.......I hope you forward all this. One last thought for the day:

Only five defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ

2. The Canadian Soldier.

3. The British Soldier.

4. The US Soldier, and

5. The Australian Soldier

One died for your soul, the other 4 for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET ALL OF THEM.

AMEN!

New Yorker, WRONG

In my most humble opinion, I feel that the cover is as funny as a one legged man at an ass kicking contest! That being said, it was tasteless and without any truth to real life.
As much as I am not for Obama, he does not deserve the "BLAST" they got from the New Yorker. I will not vote for him but neither will I help tear him down.
Let him do that himself.

"WHAT'S RIGHT WITH AMERICA"

By Glenn Beck CNN

Editor's note: Glenn Beck is on CNN Headline News nightly at 7 and 9 ET and also hosts a conservative national radio talk show.

Glenn Beck says we should take time to celebrate what's right with America

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A few days before the Fourth of July, I read a column in The Philadelphia Inquirer that said America didn't deserve to celebrate its independence this year.
It claimed that all of our so-called atrocities have shamed the memory of our founding fathers and, as a result, we should cancel our parades, put away our fireworks and all sit quietly while we atone for our sins.
I guess that was one way to go.
Another way to go would be to fire up the grills, bring the kids to the beach, and gather the family on a blanket to watch as your tax dollars ignite into colorful bursts.
I'm guessing that most of us chose the second option.
But just because I had fun with friends and family doesn't mean that I believe America is perfect. It just means that, for one day, I chose to celebrate the fact that America is still closer to perfect than any other country in the history of the world.
For 364 days a year we talk about high gas prices, crooked politicians, and how much people from one political party allegedly hate everyone from the other. But for 24 hours we get to put it all aside and marvel at how a few brave men risked their lives to stand up for what they believed in. Of course, I would prefer we celebrate that every day, but for now, or at least until that Inquirer columnist gets elected president and bans it, I'll take the one.
Don't Miss
Beck's new book: 'An Inconvenient Book'
Glenn Beck on Headline News
As someone who works in the media in New York City, I'll admit that I am part of the chorus of people who talk about our problems. But there's nothing wrong with that, so long as you also occasionally take the time to talk about the other side. And that's what I want to do now by asking the question that never seems to be of interest to the mainstream media: What's right with America?
Let's start with our much maligned economy. I'm not trying to sugarcoat it, times are definitely tough for an awful lot of families right now. But you know what? We've made it through a depression; we've made it through wars, oil shocks, and major terrorist attacks and we're still standing. In fact, we're not just standing, we're towering over the rest of the world.
Our economy is almost as big as the next four largest economies on Earth (Japan, Germany, China and Great Britain) combined. The state of California alone has an economy as large as the entire country of France. Illinois has the same GDP as all of Mexico. New York matches the entire GDP of Brazil. Florida's economy is as large as South Korea's. Texas has a GDP roughly equal to Canada's. Michigan's economy is as large as the entire country of Argentina.
It takes a lot longer to turn around an aircraft carrier than it does a dinghy, but the problem we have is with our ship's captain -- the pea-brains in Washington -- not her crew.
What's right with America? How about the way we educate our children. Sure, I complain a lot about left-wing professors and how some wealthy private universities hoard their billions while charging obscene amounts for tuition, but the truth is that our universities are always ranked among the best in the world.
Students aren't fleeing America to go to college in Japan, India, or China -- it's the other way around. We open our colleges and universities to more than 80,000 foreign professors, scholars and educators a year and we have more students in college right now than those three countries combined.
What's right with America? Our world-class universities don't require you to have an elite family name or Rockefeller-type wealth to get in. We don't care about your race, gender or nationality. You just have to be smart enough and work hard for it. What a concept, huh?
What's right with America? How about the way we treat the less fortunate? With no help from our government, Americans gave a record $306 billion to charities last year alone. We give twice as much as the next closest country and, relative to the size of our economies, we give 1,000 percent more than the French.
What's right with America? It's not just the wealthy who are generous. Two-thirds of American families making under $100,000 a year give to charity. Compassion is ingrained in our culture like no other.
What's right with America? How about our supposedly third-world health care system? We spend more on health care per person than Switzerland, Germany, Canada, or any other country you can think of. Do we still have problems? Absolutely, but don't fall for "the grass is greener" crowd; every country has health care problems.
What's right with America? We love our country. World Values Survey found that 77 percent of Americans are very proud of their nationality. That puts us in a first place tie with the Irish. Australia was next and no one else was really even close.
I could go on and on, but my point is that we don't need the so often wished for "change" in this country, we just need perspective.
While most of us inherently know that we've won the lottery by living here, we don't often think about the reasons why.
So, for at least that one day, let's just remember that America still leads the world in the principles that matter most: The rule of law, freedom of religion, equal rights, freedom from an oppressive government and, fortunately for the Philadelphia Inquirer, freedom of speech.

THE OBAMA TIDAL WAVE?

I received this in an E-Mail, I cannot give any credit to any one for this piece. It was forwarded to me and felt like sharing, The information is as far as I can see is accurate. Neither I or anyone else should take credit for it.
POP

We are witnessing a political phenomenon with Barack Obama of rare magnitude.
His speeches have inspired millions and yet most of his followers have no idea of what he stands for except platitudes of "Change" or that he says he will be a "Uniter".

The power of speech from a charismatic person truly can be a powerful thing.
Certainly Billy Graham had charisma and both his manner of speech and particularly the content changed millions.

On the extreme other hand, the charisma of Adolph Hitler inspired millions and the results were catastrophic. Barack Obama certainly is no Hitler or a Billy Graham, but for many Americans out there feeling just like a surfer who might be ecstatic and euphoric while riding a tidal wave. The real story is what happens when it hits shore. Just Some of What Defines Barack Obama: He voted against banning partial birth abortion. He voted no on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. Supports affirmative action in colleges and government. In 2001 he questioned harsh penalties for drug dealing. Says he will deal with street level drug dealing as a minimum wage affair. Admitted marijuana and cocaine use in high school and in college. His religious convictions are very murky.

He is willing to meet with Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung IL and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Has said that one of his first goals after being elected would be to have a conference with all Muslim nations. Opposed the Patriot Act. First bill he signed that was passed was campaign finance reform. Voted No on prohibiting law suits against gun manufacturers. Supports universal health-care. Voted yes on providing habeas corpus for Guantanamo detainees. Supports granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Supports extending welfare to illegal immigrants. Voted yes on comprehensive immigration reform. Voted yes on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. Wants to make the minimum wage a "living wage".

Voted with Democratic Party 96 percent of 251 votes. Is a big believer in the separation of church and state. Opposed to any efforts to privatize Social Security and instead supports increasing the amount of tax paid. He voted No on repealing the Alternative Minimum Tax. He voted No on repealing the "Death" Tax He wants to raise the Capital Gains Tax. Has repeatedly said the surge in Iraq has not succeeded. He is ranked as the most liberal Senator in the Senate today and that takes some doing.
If your political choices are consistent with Barack Obama's and you think that his positions will bring America together or make it a better place, then you will probably enjoy the ride and not forward this Email. If you are like most Americans that after examining what he stands for, are truly not in line with his record, it would be prudent to get off the wave or better yet, never get on, before it comes on shore and undermines the very foundations of this great Country.
We have limited time to save America or the Supreme Court as we know it. Inaction is action. If you agree this is important, pass it on. The mainstream media will not do it for you!

I am really fed up

I found this in a stack of stuff today and thought I would add it to my blog. Guess in my 74th Year I am getting Radical, guess the CIA and FBI will be looking into my writings

Even though this was first published in the 1970’s and re published after 911, Guess it still applies now, No one really gives a flying flip about the US of A unless we are showering them with MONEY!

Don’t bother Forwarding this, Seems like no one in this country CARES either, But you know what, we will WIN!

TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES

This, from a Canadian newspaper, it's worth sharing.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television Commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

America: The Good Neighbor.

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts.
None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.
When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, war mongering Americans.
I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?
If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.
You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.
I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America! Wear it proudly!!

WITH ALL DUE RESPECTS, IF OUR MONEY IS WORTHLESS, WHY DO SO MANY COUNTRIES TAKE IT THEN STAB US IN THE BACK with weapons they bought with our money?

Just something to think about

ARE YOU AS SORRY AS I AM?

This 'Letter of Apology' was written by Lieutenant General Chuck Pitman, US Marine Corps, Retired:

For good and ill, the Iraqi prisoner abuse mess will remain an issue. On the one hand, right thinking Americans will abhor the stupidity of the actions while on the other hand, political glee will take control and fashion this minor event into some modern day massacre. I humbly offer my opinion here:
I am sorry that the last seven times we Americans took up arms and sacrificed the blood of our youth; it was in the defense of Muslims (Bosnia , Kosovo, Gulf War 1, Kuwait , etc.)

I am sorry that no such call for an apology upon the extremists came after 9/11.

I am sorry that all of the murderers on 9/11 were Islamic Arabs.

I am sorry that most Arabs and Muslims have to live in squalor under savage dictatorships.

I am sorry that their leaders squander their wealth.

I am sorry that their governments breed hate for the US in their religious schools, mosques, and government-controlled media.

I am sorry that Yasser Arafat was kicked out of every Arab country and high-jacked the Palestinian 'cause.'

I am sorry that no other Arab country will take in or offer more than a token amount of financial help to those same Palestinians.

I am sorry that the U. S. A. has to step in and be the biggest financial supporter of poverty stricken Arabs while the insanely wealthy Arabs blame the USA for all their problems.

I am sorry that our own left wing, our media, and our own brainwashed liberal masses do not understand any of this (from the misleading vocal elements of our society like radical liberal professors, CNN and the NY TIMES).

I am sorry the United Nations scammed the poor people of Iraq out of the 'food for oil' money so they could get rich while the common folk suffered.

I am sorry that some Arab governments pay the families of homicide bombers upon their death

I am sorry that those same bombers are brainwashed thinking they will receive 72 virgins in 'paradise.'

I am sorry that the homicide bombers think pregnant women, babies, children, the elderly and other noncombatant civilians are legitimate targets.

I am sorry that our troops die to free more Arabs from the gang rape rooms and the filling of mass graves of dissidents of their own making.

I am sorry that Muslim extremists have killed more Arabs than any other group.

I am sorry that foreign trained terrorists are trying to seize control of Iraq and return it to a terrorist state. I am sorry we don't drop a few dozen Daisy cutters on Fallujah.

I am sorry every time terrorists hide they find a convenient 'Holy Site.'

I am sorry they didn't apologize for driving a jet into the World Trade Center that collapsed and severely damaged Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church - one of our Holy Sites.

I am sorry they didn't apologize for flight 93 and 175, the USS Cole, the embassy bombings, the murders and beheadings of Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl, etc....etc!

I am sorry Michael Moore is American; he could feed a medium sized village in Africa. America will get past this latest absurdity. We will punish those responsible because that is what we do.

I am sorry that voters on the liberal left don't understand the frightening changes that are taking place in the Muslim world and what these changes will do to this world in which we live.

I am sorry that the Democratic Party has been high-jacked by Socialists and Communists right under the very noses of those who take pride in calling themselves democrats. We hang out our dirty laundry for the entire world to see.

We move on.

That's one of the reasons we are hated so much. We don't hide this stuff like all those Arab countries that are now demanding an apology. Deep down inside, when most Americans saw this reported in the news, we were like - so what? We lost hundreds and made fun of a few prisoners. Sure, it was wrong, sure, it dramatically hurts our cause, but until captured we were trying to kill these same prisoners.

Now we're supposed to wring our hands because a few were humiliated? Our compassion is tempered with the vivid memories of our own people killed, mutilated and burnt amongst a joyous crowd of celebrating Fallujahans. If you want an apology from this American, you're going to have a long wait! You have a better chance of finding those seventy-two virgins.

Chuck Pitman Lieutenant General, USMC

Pass this on to your friends if you agree.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

I WAS NOT BORN TEXAN! BUT I GOT HERE AS FAST AS I COULD

REMEMBER THE ALAMO! SURENDER OF SANTA ANNA

ERASTUS "DEAF" SMITH

GENERAL SIDNEY SHERMAN

SAM HOUSTOM
“Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.”
-General Sam Houston

The Battle of San Jacinto

The Battle of San Jacinto lasted less than twenty minutes, but it sealed the fate of three republics. Mexico would never regain the lost territory, in spite of sporadic incursions during the 1840s. The United States would go on to acquire not only the Republic of Texas in 1845 but Mexican lands to the west after the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican War in 1848.
By early April, Santa Anna had divided his forces in a three-pronged attack: a northern army, under General Antonio Gaona , the central army under Santa Anna and General Joaquin Ramirez y Sesma, and a coastal army under command of General Jose Francisco Urrea.

The Texan army, meanwhile, had been in retreat since March 13, when it left Gonzales after learning of the Fall of the Alamo. On March 25, news of the massacre at Goliad led several men to leave the army to assist their families to flee before the advancing Mexican army. The resulting "Runaway Scrape" involved most of Eastern Texas, and panicked the government. Sam Houston spent the next few weeks attempting to train the recruits into something resembling a disciplined army, then continued his march toward the Sabine.
On April 16, learning that Santa Anna had isolated his army, Houston pursued him to Buffalo Bayou, arriving there at midnight on April 19, and continuing their march toward Lynch's Ferry on the 20th. That afternoon, General Sidney Sherman engaged the Mexicans in a skirmish that almost resulted in a full scale battle. Mirabeau B. Lamar's heroic actions in that conflict earned him a battlefield commission as Colonel.

The next day, Houston learned that General Martin Perfecto de Cos had crossed over Vince's Bridge with reinforcements. Houston ordered Erastus "Deaf" Smith to destroy the bridge-a move that prevented further swelling of Mexican ranks, and likewise prevented retreat by both the Mexican and Texan armies.
About 3:30 in the afternoon, during the Mexican siesta period, Houston distributed his troops in battle array, bracketing the line with the "Twin Sisters" cannon. Shielded by trees and a rise in the terrain, the Texans were able to advance with some security. Then with the cries "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember La Bahia" or "Remember Goliad" ringing along their lines, the Texans swooped down on the dismayed Mexican army, pursuing and butchering them long after the battle itself had ended.

630 Mexicans were killed and 730 taken prisoner.
Texans lost only 9 killed or mortally wounded; thirty were less seriously wounded.
Among the latter was General Houston, whose ankle was shattered.

On the day following the battle, a small party discovered Santa Anna and brought him into camp, unaware at first of the importance of their prisoner. As part of his surrender agreement, the president/general ordered the Mexican troops remaining in Texas immediately to retreat south of the Rio Grande.

On May 14, 1836, the public and private treaties of Velasco, were signed by Presidents David G. Burnet and Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. They confirmed the Mexican retreat and declared an end to the war. Neither the Texas nor Mexican governments accepted the treaties, however, and a state of war existed throughout most of the Republic of Texas' existence.

TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Texas Declaration of Independence(March 2, 1836)

The Texas Declaration of Independence was produced, literally, overnight. Its urgency was paramount, because while it was being prepared, the Alamo in San Antonio was under seige by Santa Anna's army of Mexico.

Immediately upon the assemblage of the Convention of 1836 on March 1, a committee of five of its delegates were appointed to draft the document. The committee, consisting of George C. Childress, Edward Conrad, James Gaines, Bailey Hardeman, and Collin McKinney, prepared the declaration in record time. It was briefly reviewed, then adopted by the delegates of the convention the following day.

As seen from the transcription below, the document parallels somewhat that of the United States, signed almost sixty years earlier. It contains statements on the function and responsibility of government, followed by a list of grievances. Finally, it concludes by declaring Texas a free and independent republic.

The full text of the document is as follows:

The Unanimous Declaration of Independence made by theDelegates of the People of Texas in General Conventionat the town of Washingtonon the 2nd day of March 1836.

When a government has ceased to protect the lives, liberty and property of the people, from whom its legitimate powers are derived, and for the advancement of whose happiness it was instituted, and so far from being a guarantee for the enjoyment of those inestimable and inalienable rights, becomes an instrument in the hands of evil rulers for their oppression.

When the Federal Republican Constitution of their country, which they have sworn to support, no longer has a substantial existence, and the whole nature of their government has been forcibly changed, without their consent, from a restricted federative republic, composed of sovereign states, to a consolidated central military despotism, in which every interest is disregarded but that of the army and the priesthood, both the eternal enemies of civil liberty, the everready minions of power, and the usual instruments of tyrants.

When, long after the spirit of the constitution has departed, moderation is at length so far lost by those in power, that even the semblance of freedom is removed, and the forms themselves of the constitution discontinued, and so far from their petitions and remonstrances being regarded, the agents who bear them are thrown into dungeons, and mercenary armies sent forth to force a new government upon them at the point of the bayonet.

When, in consequence of such acts of malfeasance and abdication on the part of the government, anarchy prevails, and civil society is dissolved into its original elements. In such a crisis, the first law of nature, the right of self-preservation, the inherent and inalienable rights of the people to appeal to first principles, and take their political affairs into their own hands in extreme cases, enjoins it as a right towards themselves, and a sacred obligation to their posterity, to abolish such government, and create another in its stead, calculated to rescue them from impending dangers, and to secure their future welfare and happiness.

Nations, as well as individuals, are amenable for their acts to the public opinion of mankind. A statement of a part of our grievances is therefore submitted to an impartial world, in justification of the hazardous but unavoidable step now taken, of severing our political connection with the Mexican people, and assuming an independent attitude among the nations of the earth.

The Mexican government, by its colonization laws, invited and induced the Anglo-American population of Texas to colonize its wilderness under the pledged faith of a written constitution, that they should continue to enjoy that constitutional liberty and republican government to which they had been habituated in the land of their birth, the United States of America.

In this expectation they have been cruelly disappointed, inasmuch as the Mexican nation has acquiesced in the late changes made in the government by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who having overturned the constitution of his country, now offers us the cruel alternative, either to abandon our homes, acquired by so many privations, or submit to the most intolerable of all tyranny, the combined despotism of the sword and the priesthood.

It has sacrificed our welfare to the state of Coahuila, by which our interests have been continually depressed through a jealous and partial course of legislation, carried on at a far distant seat of government, by a hostile majority, in an unknown tongue, and this too, notwithstanding we have petitioned in the humblest terms for the establishment of a separate state government, and have, in accordance with the provisions of the national constitution, presented to the general Congress a republican constitution, which was, without just cause, contemptuously rejected.

It incarcerated in a dungeon, for a long time, one of our citizens, for no other cause but a zealous endeavor to procure the acceptance of our constitution, and the establishment of a state government.

It has failed and refused to secure, on a firm basis, the right of trial by jury, that palladium of civil liberty, and only safe guarantee for the life, liberty, and property of the citizen.

It has failed to establish any public system of education, although possessed of almost boundless resources, (the public domain,) and although it is an axiom in political science, that unless a people are educated and enlightened, it is idle to expect the continuance of civil liberty, or the capacity for self government.

It has suffered the military commandants, stationed among us, to exercise arbitrary acts of oppression and tyrrany, thus trampling upon the most sacred rights of the citizens, and rendering the military superior to the civil power.

It has dissolved, by force of arms, the state Congress of Coahuila and Texas, and obliged our representatives to fly for their lives from the seat of government, thus depriving us of the fundamental political right of representation.

It has demanded the surrender of a number of our citizens, and ordered military detachments to seize and carry them into the Interior for trial, in contempt of the civil authorities, and in defiance of the laws and the constitution.

It has made piratical attacks upon our commerce, by commissioning foreign desperadoes, and authorizing them to seize our vessels, and convey the property of our citizens to far distant ports for confiscation.

It denies us the right of worshipping the Almighty according to the dictates of our own conscience, by the support of a national religion, calculated to promote the temporal interest of its human functionaries, rather than the glory of the true and living God.

It has demanded us to deliver up our arms, which are essential to our defence, the rightful property of freemen, and formidable only to tyrannical governments.

It has invaded our country both by sea and by land, with intent to lay waste our territory, and drive us from our homes; and has now a large mercenary army advancing, to carry on against us a war of extermination.

It has, through its emissaries, incited the merciless savage, with the tomahawk and scalping knife, to massacre the inhabitants of our defenseless frontiers.

It hath been, during the whole time of our connection with it, the contemptible sport and victim of successive military revolutions, and hath continually exhibited every characteristic of a weak, corrupt, and tyrranical government.

These, and other grievances, were patiently borne by the people of Texas, untill they reached that point at which forbearance ceases to be a virtue. We then took up arms in defence of the national constitution. We appealed to our Mexican brethren for assistance. Our appeal has been made in vain. Though months have elapsed, no sympathetic response has yet been heard from the Interior. We are, therefore, forced to the melancholy conclusion, that the Mexican people have acquiesced in the destruction of their liberty, and the substitution therfor of a military government; that they are unfit to be free, and incapable of self government.

The necessity of self-preservation, therefore, now decrees our eternal political separation.
We, therefore, the delegates with plenary powers of the people of Texas, in solemn convention assembled, appealing to a candid world for the necessities of our condition, do hereby resolve and declare, that our political connection with the Mexican nation has forever ended, and that the people of Texas do now constitute a free, Sovereign, and independent republic, and are fully invested with all the rights and attributes which properly belong to independent nations; and, conscious of the rectitude of our intentions, we fearlessly and confidently commit the issue to the decision of the Supreme arbiter of the destinies of nations.

Some good news about IRAQ

From: http://www.righttruth.typepad.com
Did you know?
I didn't know! How could we???

OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW!

WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW? BECAUSE... OUR MEDIA WOULDN'T TELL US!
Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burning incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing snowballs at the presidential motorcades.

Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves two purposes:

It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States

thus minimizing consequent support, and it is intended to discourage American citizens .
